This month we are excited and proud to honor Tyson Ross as our Game Changer of the Month! A professional athlete and community activist, Tyson joined the Corps in summer 2020 and has been a tremendous athlete ambassador for Coaching Corps, highlighting the need for caring and well-trained coaches for kids in under-resourced communities of color.
Tyson is a member of our Racial Equity and Access in Youth Sports Task Force in Oakland, and together with the members of the group, strives to build strategies that create more racially equitable youth sports opportunities for Black and Brown youth while also increasing the number of Black and Brown coaches trained in sports-based youth development.
Tyson is also the founder of Loyal to my Soil, an organization that works to increase access to the sport of baseball for Black and Brown youth by providing camps that offer professional-level baseball instruction free of charge to kids that cannot afford the high cost of specialized instruction. Loyal to my Soil is working to unify the local community and revitalize baseball in under-resourced Black and Brown baseball programs in and around Oakland. Tyson leverages his vast network of local professional players and coaches who come out to provide their technical knowledge of the game to local players and share general life wisdom with young players.
On November 8 at the Castlewood Golf Course, Tyson Ross and his brother Joe Ross will be hosting a charting golf tournament benefitting their foundation, Loyal to my Soil. Join them in bringing together the baseball community to give back to the next generation of ball players!
