Our Work

Meeting the need. Making a difference.

We ensure that the opportunity for kids to run, play, learn, and work with a team is a given – not a luxury. There are clear benefits to early sports participation and mentorship, and there is currently a great disparity in access to these benefits. We are changing the game for the kids who need us most by addressing this key gap.

THE IMPACT OF SPORTS

Kids who are active improve in many aspects of life, including academic performance, behavior, mental health, and mood.

(CDC and National Foundation on Fitness, Sports, & Nutrition, 2015)

Young adults who face an opportunity gap but have a mentor are 81% more likely to participate regularly in sports or extracurricular activities than those who do not.

(The Mentoring Effect Study, 2014)

Physical activity, and sports in particular, can positively affect personal development among young people. Quality of coaching is a key factor in maximizing these effects.

(GAO, 2012)

THE CURRENT LANDSCAPE

Only one in three children are physically active every day.

(President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition)

Youth from underserved communities are less than half as likely to participate in sports.

(Aspen Institute, 2015)

9 million youth from under-resourced communities will reach the age of 19 without ever having a mentor.

(The Mentoring Effect Study, 2014)

Be a Champion for Change

When you support Coaching Corps, you help our coaches enable youth to thrive as individuals and grow into the next generation of leaders.

A portion of your gift will be matched by the Evelyn & Walter Haas, Jr. Fund – meaning your gift goes further with us.

Support the Chance to Play

Youth from underserved communities are half as likely to play sports as their peers. You can help change this reality. Help us reach the children who need us most.
