Wednesday, February 2 marks National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) a long-running yearly event across the country to celebrate girls and women in sports, mark their accomplishments, take stock of strides made, and focus on the full gender equity still needed to ensure all girls and women can “get into the game.” This is a special year as NGWSD kicks off the 50th anniversary of Title IX (June 23, 2022).
Coaching Corps and its newly developing Gender Equity Initiative are proud to celebrate the occasion and support girls and women in sports in many ways through our network of coaches, partners and donors.
See below for ways to participate in National Girls and Women in Sports Day today and all year!

Today at 3:30 p.m. PST / 6:30 p.m. EST, the Women National Basketball Association (WNBA) is hosting a Her Time to Play special webinar featuring current WNBA New York Liberty teammate and leader Betnijah Laney, several referees from women’s professional basketball, Coaching Corps Gender Equity Initiative Director, Kim Turner, and Prabhleen Kaur (Author of She Plays to Win). Sign up for the webinar here (all welcome, with a special emphasis on girls ages 11-14 joining).

For park and recreation partners, National Park and Recreation Association magazine recently published an article from Coaching Corps’ Kim Turner on Getting Girls Into the Game for a Lifetime of Success with nine tips for the approaching Title IX 50th anniversary aimed at departments, agencies, leaders, coaches, and community members to act on gender equity in youth athletics to ensure girls and women can fully play and coach.
