Have you ever had a coach that inspired you? How about a coach who influenced you to volunteer and become a coach yourself? San Diego State University student and Coaching Corps volunteer Megan Lerman definitely has.
When Megan was in high school, her soccer coached always encouraged her and made her feel needed on the team. Now as a student at SDSU, Megan is in the honors program and taking high-level math courses, yet still finds time to volunteer with Coaching Corps.
Megan recently volunteered at the Copley YMCA, coaching soccer for kids ages four to six.
“It was a great experience and I definitely plan on coaching again,” Megan said about her season. Joined by a friend, Megan led the team in practice once each week and on Saturdays during games. “It was nice staying active and getting a break from school,” said Megan. “Being with those kids helped me remember what It was like to feel like a kid again.”
After graduation, Megan plans to pursue a career in education and teach high school math. Inspired by her experience with Coaching Corps and the Copley YMCA, she hopes to continue coaching soccer with her future students.
Through Coaching Corps, Megan is giving back to her community and having a great time in the process.
