Todd Walthall is executive vice president of Markets at Blue Shield of California, a 4-million-member nonprofit health plan that serves the state’s commercial, individual and government markets. Walthall is responsible for the management and performance of the company’s membership, as well as more than $20 billion in annual revenue.
Walthall joined Blue Shield in 2014 as senior vice president of Customer Experience, where he led all aspects of business operations, from enrollment to claims processing, and the teams responsible for delivering customer service to members. Walthall was also responsible for Blue Shield’s development of highly personalized digital solutions designed to keep healthcare consumers and providers better informed.
With more than two decades of leadership experience, Walthall’s career focus has been on steering new products from concept to launch, translating business models into viable growth strategies, and implementing successful customer service and retention programs.
Prior to joining Blue Shield, Walthall was vice president and general manager of Digital Service Integration at American Express.
Before that, as senior vice president, head of deposits and payments, and senior vice president of Channel Management at USAA, he was a key member of the team that developed the industry’s first mobile check-deposit service. Walthall is the executive sponsor of Blue Shield of California’s domestic violence awareness campaign and Operation V.E.T., which is the company’s employee resource group open to all employees who wish to support our military community.
Walthall is a board member of Coaching Corps which uses sport to teach kids in the community valuable life lessons and inspire them to reach their full potential. He is also a member of the Executive Leadership Council.
Walthall holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Emmanuel College. He was a recipient of the 2016 Multicultural Leaders of California award from the National Diversity Council.
